Accessibility
Our commitment
Starlight should be usable by every athlete, parent and coach, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, magnification, or other assistive technology. We treat accessibility problems as defects, not feature requests.
The standard we work to
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. That is the target we design and build against — sufficient color contrast, keyboard access to every interactive control, visible focus states, text alternatives for images, labelled form fields, and semantic structure that screen readers can navigate.
We have not yet completed a formal third-party audit, so we do not claim full conformance. We would rather tell you that plainly than assert something we have not verified.
Where we fall short
Some parts of Starlight are harder to use with assistive technology than others, and we want to be straightforward about it:
- The video player and highlight editor involve timeline scrubbing and drag interactions that are difficult to operate without a pointing device. Keyboard alternatives are incomplete.
- Game film has no captions or audio description by default. Film is uploaded by organizations and we do not currently generate captions for it.
- Some data tables and charts in the statistics and analytics views rely on visual layout to convey relationships.
If any of these blocks you from something you need, contact us and we will find another way to get it to you.
Tell us about a problem
If you hit an accessibility barrier, email legal@starlightlax.com with the page you were on, what you were trying to do, and the assistive technology you were using if you know it. We will acknowledge within 5 business days and tell you what we can do and when.
If you need information from Starlight in an alternative format, ask and we will provide it.
